Deck Makeover: Before and After

June 30, 2020      2 Comments

Do you remember last week when I showed you how I turned our gross looking deck from this to this? Well, to today I would like to share more of our back deck makeover.

Stained Deck Before and After

What’s really nice is now we are actually using our deck! The boys and I sat outside on it this afternoon for a couple hours reading stories. Anytime I am willing to read to them, I have a captive audience. They love to look at books.

I redeemed some loyalty points and bought this zero gravity chair, too, for the other end. I should have bought more, but they only had the one in stock that day. Luke especially likes to lay in it.

In fact, I caught him in it while I was taking these pictures. He had my phone and was taking pictures of me taking pictures.

I should have known better than to use real clementines in the pictures, too.

He had a real hard time resisting them 🙂

Staining a deck sure is hard work, but the results are worth it. Now hopefully it will last a couple years before I have to start all over again.

Sources for our deck makeover:

The pillows are all from the Real Canadian Superstore. The yellow one and the one with the lemons are from this year, but the blue paisley one is a few years old now. The black lanterns are also from the Superstore. They are a few years old, too. The pillow and the chair were the only things purchased new for our deck makeover. I had all the rest on hand already and most of it was from yard sales.

The antique metal garden set was found maybe 5 or 6 years ago at a yard sale for $50.00. The paint was a little rough, so my husband had them sandblasted and powder coated for me at his work… and I don’t believe they charge him anything for that. The paint has held up great and they are still in near perfect condition.

The pink water pitcher was also found at a yard sale. It is pink depression glass. The metal fern stand was a rusty black yard sale find, too, and I spray painted it white a couple years ago.

I even bought the rug at a yard sale a couple years ago. It’s one of those plastic woven outdoor ones. It got left out all last winter, so it was pretty dirty. But after a little scrubbing all the dirt came off and it looks great again.
