Who is ready for some warm weather? And what says summer more than a cute pair of flip-flops? Today, I will be going through the steps for a fabulous Dollar Tree Flip-Flop Makeover Have you ever noticed how some shoe or sandal refashions look cute, but they just seem to have that “homemade…sorta tacky” flavour to them? I was in the mood for a pretty pair of flip flops – (minus the tacky of course;)) and thought I would love to try fancying up some from the dollar store. Because flipflops don’t tend to last that long I didn’t really want to spend a ton of money on this project. Keep reading to see how you too can use your Cricut to transform a $1.25 (+ tax!) pair of sandals.
Supplies Needed For Your Dollar Tree Flip-Flop Makeover
Open up Cricut Design space and start searching for an image you would like to use on your sandals. I searched “floral” and ended up choosing C Floral Monogram #M53AD5A, which is actually a free image. There are various other letters, so if your name doesn’t start with a C, you have options!
Insert it onto your canvas and size it to about 2- 2.5″ depending on the size of your sandal.
Click on the bright green MAKE IT button and you will be taken to the next screen as seen below. Change the Project copies to 2, and click on ‘apply’ and then mirror your image. Then click the green continue button.
Change your material to Everyday Iron-On, and leave it set to default on the blade pressure setting. Make sure you place your vinyl shiny side down on your mat. Load your mat and press Go.
After your image is cut out, you will have to weed it and then apply it to your sandals. I used my home iron for this, but if you have an Easypress mini, that would probably work great. Cover your sandal with parchment paper so you don’t melt the plastic and press. I pressed until I could kind of see the little bumps showing through the vinyl.
Then you need to decorate the straps:
I used E6000 to glue on my embellishments. You can use whatever items want to personalise yours. I used dollar store pearls and the flowers were ordered off Etsy years ago. Another great idea would be to repurpose a pair of old earrings by cutting off the stud and then gluing them onto the center.
Paint your toes a fun colour to show off your cute new flippies 🙂
