I have been wanting to make a bicycle wheel wreath for a little while now, but hadn’t really come across any old wheels. But, my father-in-law likes to keep ALL the things. It drives my my mother-in-law crazy. And lucky for me he just so happened to have a few old bike wheels stored out in their shed and he was willing to part with two of them. Thanks Dad! I haven’t done anything with the second one, yet, but I am thinking of making a second wreath for Christmas/winter.
Make Your Bicycle Wreath:
First off, you will want to clean your wheel and remove any reflectors, etc. that are on it.

Then you can spray paint if you want to. I used this spray paint. I was going for a fun summery look, so I painted mine aqua blue. Plus, it was what I had in my cupboard. Thanks to my 6yr old for this next action picture 🙂

Then I took a trip to the dollar store and picked out some faux flowers and greenery for my bicycle wheel wreath. The total spent for the entire wreath was $13.50. So, not too bad a total for a new wreath of this size. I went with dollar store greenery because I was planning on hanging the wreath outside. The greenery is plastic and should stand up nice. The flowers may fade, we will see.

I then arranged everything on the wheel and hot glued it all in place. You can use string or pipe cleaners to secure things too, if necessary. I found that the hot glue wasn’t quite strong enough in the wind and needed reinforcement.

I hung it on the back of the house, on our newly stained deck. I will be sharing more of that soon.

But here’s a sneaky peak:

This was a really fun wreath to make! It’s great for summer and it’s large enough to make a real impact on a space. Have I inspired you to make your own bicycle wheel wreath?

Did you like this post? I would love it if you pinned it 🙂
