I am planning on doing a post soon showing a bit of my Christmas decor, but I thought that this tree skirt deserved a post of its own!
I basically followed the instructions on HGTV, but with a few of my own modifications:
-I used muslin instead of linen… cheaper!
-I used a little wider strips
-A couple days before I started making it, I found a plain white felty looking tree skirt at the dollarama that I used as a base, rather than make my own. At a only a dollar, I thought saving that step was worth it.
-Also, instead of forming the ruffles as I glued the material down, I sewed them on my sewing machine. This was an extra step at the beginning, but I felt that it made putting the end product together a lot easier.
I totally love this tree skirt! And I hope I continue to love it for the next couple of years, because it was very time consuming.
Here’s the full view of the tree… no presents under it yet, though!
I made a lot of my own ornaments this year:
This ornament that one of my brothers gave me years ago fit in perfectly!
I picked up a bunch of these tin stars and tinsel at a yard sale this summer…
And to top it all off, a big burlap smooosh. I literally just smooshed together a couple strips of burlap and came up with this…
What about you? Do you have your tree up yet? In the past I’ve had mine up mid-november, but this year was a bit later because I was trying to get my tree skirt done, and we put it up last week.
