I don’t know about you, but around here, fall is definitely in the air. We have had some absolutely beautiful days here lately. Around this time every year, I always get the urge to decorate for fall. It’s such a fun season to decorate for isn’t it? Usually I make a few new decor items each season. Recently, my husband was kind enough to cut some wood for me to make some DIY wood pumpkins with 🙂

Steps to Make your Own DIY Wood Pumpkins:
First, cut out your wood. Mine are approximately 7″x5.5. We used 3/4″ pine, but you can use whatever you have on hand. The corners were cut off at a 45degree angle and a hole drilled in the top to add a stick stem. If you are a little iffy on the whole angle thing, you could just skip that part and leave it a rectangle. That’s cute, too!
Next, you’ll want to sand your edges and corners smooth. I then stained mine dark walnut, but you can also paint them if you wanted to.

For the plaid ones I cut a piece of scrapbook paper and used mod podge to put it on the front. When using mod podge for something like this, don’t skimp, make sure you use a liberal amount.. you’ll get better results. Also, you can use an old credit/debit card etc. to squeeze out any air bubbles. I coated the top of my paper with mod podge too.

When everything was all dry, I used a nail file and lightly sanded the edge of the paper to distress it a little.
You can embellish it any way you want to. I took the easy route and cut out some letters with my cricut, but a handpainted saying would be super cute, too. I then glued on a bow and added a stick for a stem.
This one, I did not add paper to, I just painted and distressed it.

And this one, I added a few felt flowers to.

Which one DIY Wood Pumpkin do you like the best? I can’t decide! And if I had more time, I would probably make 20 more! I would love it if you would pin this!
